“But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.” ~Jude 1:20-23
Hell is a very real place. Someone recently made a very scary but good illustration of what hell is like:
- Pain – Think about the worst pain you’ve ever experienced in your life. Now, this pain eventually subsided. You healed in time and returned to functioning without such pain. In hell, the worst pain imaginable is your eternal reality and it will never stop or heal.
- Time – Regardless of how old you are, you know that time can be taxing and struggling for extended periods are stressful and sometimes can be a form of torment. Now, think about being on fire your entire life, like 80 years for example. That’s not even a drop in the bucket in the scope of eternity. Now imagine being on fire for a million years. Even that is infinitesimal in terms of spending eternity in hell.
- No Escape – As much as people struggle with the teaching of hell, once you are there, you will always be there. Only one decision in your life would have mattered for changing your eternal destiny. Lastly, people in hell will be able to see the paradise they could have had. This is probably one of the worst things about hell. Aside from the unending torment, you will be aware of but never taste of heaven.
I do not say this to scare you. Rather I do this to motivate believers to seek opportunities for evangelism in their daily lives. However, I also say all of this to make aware the eternal reality of all those who read this and don’t know Jesus.
Hearing the true reality of hell stirred in me the desire to save everyone I know, and even strangers from this eternal destination. If hell doesn’t motivate you to help people get saved, then you need to re-evaluate your life.
Now, I will leave you with some of my favorite verses regarding evangelism:
As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of evangelist, fulfill your ministry. ~2 Timothy 4:5
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise. ~Proverb 11:30
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. ~1 Peter 3:15
We are all beacons of hope for this world if we trust in Jesus. Always have an answer ready for those who don’t want to go to hell. Jesus Christ rescued us all from hell. Make sure as many people as possible are rescued.
Heavenly Father, I pray that all who read this will be raised up as evangelists to save this generation from eternal damnation. Raise us up, fill us with your Holy Spirit, and help us to live out Acts 1:8 in our lives so that we may receive power to be your witness in all the earth to fulfill the Great Commission! Amen.
