“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
“Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
“‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Do you know where you will spend eternity?
In my last post, I described what we comprehend as hell. But since we had a distinct beginning, we do not fully understand the horrifying nature of eternal damnation. So the fact that we can comprehend a small piece of how horrible hell is what should give us an understanding as to why we need to share Jesus with everyone.
Even the Rich Man in hell realized the importance of evangelism once he was in hell. How much more then should we, who are still alive and have the ability to do something about it, do something about it! Pray for your unsaved friends every day and take advantage of opportunities to share the gospel in your every day life so they don’t have to look at you across the great chasm from hell in eternal torment.
But also, with hell comes its complete opposite: Heaven. Think of the best experience you have had on planet earth. That doesn’t even come close to how great the New Heaven and New Earth will be.
So, why do I say all of this. Not so that you can scare people about hell, not at all. We as believers should be scared for them and rather show them what they have to gain in knowing Jesus Christ and understand the inheritance that awaits for those who believe in Him. I firmly believe that those who go to Hell will see those they knew going to Heaven. I believe they will be bitter and wonder why you never told them about Jesus. I pray that no one you know will be on the other side of that, but rather that they will join you with Jesus in paradise.
Lastly, I will admonish you with this. Do not let people you know to go another day without telling them about the hope you cling to: Jesus Christ. Share with them how He has transformed your life. If you exhibit the fruits of the Holy Spirit in your life, your friends and even strangers will be curious. I pray that your friends, family, and anyone you come in contact with would be curious about Christ and seek Him out.
Dear Heavenly Father, give us the boldness in faith to claim the name of Jesus Christ in the mission field each person finds themself currently. Give us receptive hearts and may the Holy Spirit by His power turn the hearts of the lost to you! Amen.
Thank you for reading and may God bless you and reward you for planting seeds into the Kingdom of Heaven.
